5 Tips to Landscaping Green

Sure a new landscaping project has some associated up front costs, however making strategic environmentally friendly changes to your yard can help you save money long term. Different aspects of going green include energy conservation, using less water, and reducing environmental pollution.

1. Reduce the amount of yard space you dedicate to your lawn. This can save water. “Planting beds” require less water then grass but the quantity of water you save depends on the climate in which you live. By reducing the amount of grass you have also saves valuable time devoted to upkeep and energy it takes to mow the lawn.

2. Install an automated irrigation system. Contrary to popular belief, a regular automated water system keeps plants green and healthy and also helps you conserve water.

3. In areas where water is particularly scarce, consider enlarging the patio space to include more outdoor real estate.  Outdoor patios are especially enjoyable during warm evenings.

5. Consider including the following in your garden:

  • Aloe Vera plants
  • Succulents
  • Wildflowers native to your area
  • Ornamental Grasses
  • Rock Garden Paintings
  • Interesting Stones to contrast your softscape
